Orchestra leader, composer and pianist Duke Ellington (1899-1974), part 59. Today you will hear 8 train-inspired compositions including the famous Daybreak Express from 1933 and Happy-Go-Lucky Local from 1946, a brilliant and hilarious portrait of a slow train from the south of the US. And of course also Take The “A” Train; Billy Strayhorn’s famous composition from 1941 that would become the signature tune of the Ellington Orchestra.
