A Dutch saying: “In May, all the birds lay an egg”. But there are birds that do this the entire year. Whether or not in battery cages. The whole hour of this episode of Folk It!, the chicken, the rooster and the hen will be given attention. The reason for this is the (re)release of Cluck Old Hen on CD, a collection of American folk songs from the period 1926-1940 about poultry. We have selected several tracks from this release and we completed it with contemporary performances of folk songs in which the chicken plays a part. The sound quality, especially from the older recordings, is not optimal according to present standards, but musically you will be pleased. Want an egg???
