In June this year, the Belgian coloratura soprano Jodie Devos passed away. For Documento on Thursday evening, July 4th, our Belgian programme maker Leo August De Bock plays a selection from the beautiful CDs she released.
Jodie Devos died on June 16th, 2024 in Paris from cancer. She was barely 35. Her death shocked the music world in Belgium. Jodie Devos was a talent, a promise, a coloratura soprano of international stature.
In 2014, Jodie Devos came second in the Queen Elizabeth Competition. She received the audience award, after which her career took off.
Jodie Devos shone in operas by Mozart, Auber, Rossini, Donizetti, Verdi, Gluck, Offenbach and Bernstein. We hear a few excerpts from this in Documento. We also hear her in Die Schöpfung by Joseph Haydn and in the only oratorio by Ludwig van Beethoven.
