Latin Big Bands: it is said to have started with Cuban trumpet player Mario Bauza, who in Cab Calloway’s orchestra roused fellow section member Dizzy Gillespie’s interest in Latin rhythms. The repertoire was expanded for traditional and fashion dances, and since then their broken rhythmicity has become an integral part of jazz.
