PAUL CHAMBERS & JULIAN “CANNONBALL” ADDERLEY
At the end of 1957 Miles Davis added a wind player to his quintet who was from Lauderdale (Florida) and made a stunning impression on the New York jazz scene a few years earlier: alto saxophone player Julian “Cannonball” Adderley. With his dramatic bluesy sound making and his passionate way of phrasing which was successful with the audience, he took care of a funky, maybe even a little populist sound in this sextet. It wasn’t very surprising that Paul Chambers liked his passionate colleague to join him when he made another album (February 1959) under his own name: Go, for the Vee Jay label.
