Trumpet player Erskine Hawkins (1914-1993) was an orchestra leader from Alabama, whose biggest professional success was his ‘Tuxeda Junction’ composition. But because Hawkins was not white, the white Glenn Miller could pocket a multitude of revenues. That happened fairly often in the America of the Bigband Era.
