“Mariama”, a programme with African music. The Mbalax style from Senegal.
In this Mariama a stack of cassettes with artists from Senegal who play the Mbalax style: Kiné Lam, Ives Niang, Abdou Guité Seck, Assane Gaye, Titi, Fallou Dieng and Mbaye Dieye Faye. Mbalax developed in Senegal in the late 60’s and is a mix between modern western and popular African influences, luke Soukous (Congo) and Coupé-Décalé (Ivory Coast), and traditional Senegalese music, with a spicy sabar percussion. They sing in their mother tongue Wolof.
