At the end of 1967 Fairport Convention was set up. The band turned out to be a powder keg of talents. Illustrious names like Richard Thompson, Iain Matthews, Sandy Denny, Dave Swarbrick, Dave Mattacks and Dan ar Bras used to be part of the formation. This year it celebrates its 45 year anniversary. Time for a special special.
We mustn’t forget to mention that there isn’t much left of the original, creative, pioneering approach. Still, the current cast, with only Simon Nicol as original member and bass player Dave Pegg as ‘longest serving member’, surprises with a live performance of the LP ‘Babbacombe Lee’, that was first released on vinyl 40 years ago. You will hear the concept album ‘Babbacombe Lee’ in this episode of Folk It!, alternated with the old and new version in a special mix.
