Folk magazine about past and present, from freak folk to minstrels. This time attention for music from the Estonia during the Soviet oppression in the 80s.
This was a time in which displeasing music was firmly prosecuted by the occupying authorities. Singing in the Estonian language wasn’t really encouraged either.Folk It! brings music from that time, that outside the borders was hardly known – and still is.As a connecting thread the folk influences melt over in the progressive rock of Ruja, the humppa of Kukerpillid, the ambient of Sven Grunberg and the shamanic nature songs of Anne Maasik. Thanks to the private collection of the, currently living in Sweden, culture promoter Marika Bernadt, we were able to recover a lot of this unique material.
