Musical freedom by the Maciunas Ensemble.
The Maciunas Ensemble is one of the first experimental improvisation ensembles from the Netherlands. In 1968 Paul Panhuysen founded the Maciunas Ensemble together with Jan van Riet and Remko Scha. The ensemble still meet regularly to play sessions, mostly in their home town Eindhoven. The common theme is constantly the score of ‘Music for Everyman’ by fluxus artist George Maciunas. The musical experiments are not bound to any fixed rules, in the spirit of Marciuna’s score. Fluxus performance, minimal music, drastic improvisations and experimental folk, it all comes together in the Maciunas Ensemble. Last year a CD box with old recordings from the period 1968-1980 was released and in this Theme you will hear a generous selection from this collection of eleven CDs.
