Saxophone/flute player Frank Wess (1922-2013) died on 30 October 2013. He was tied to the Count Basie band for a long time, in which he played alto and tenor saxophone and flute during its heyday from ’53 to ’64. Especially as a flute player, Wess left a lasting impression because of his classical tones and technique.
