The last part of our three-part series about Nico Knapper. This time, he talks about his experiences with Dutch chansonniers.
Nico Knapper (1934) became known as TV producer and director of programmes like Wim Kan’s New Year’s Eve shows, and series such as Zeg ‘ns AAA and Medisch Centrum West. In the fifties, he lived in Paris with Janine, his wife at the time. There, he earned a living as a chansonnier in the rive gauche cabarets. Later he would have many former colleagues from home and abroad perform in his television shows. He founded the Werkwinkel in 1968 to support Dutch song artists who were just starting out, such as Herman van Veen, Lenny Kuhr, Marnix Kappers and Joost Nuissl.
