Music from the Croatian island of Korcula.
In this programme you can listen to a LP again, this time with music from the Croatian island of Korcula on the Adriatic coast. The next 45 minutes, we will play music from one village only, that being from the island of Blato.
On Korcula, there are clear influences from almost all mediterranean cultures such as Greek, Italian, Liburnian, Dalmatian, and cultures of pre-Slavic nature. This LP’s collection is about the sadness of saying goodbye of the seamen, about the beauty of the sea and love for the island.

The next LP is from the Dalmatian inland.
You can hear part of an LP with music performed on traditional ‘spin evenings’. On these evenings, all women and young girls gather together to carry out time-consuming work. Later in the evening, the young men of the village come by to cheer up the women by telling stories and making music.
