By means of authentic recordings by Blue Note artists we step back in time to the year 1939, and reflect on the musical developments and the driving forces behind this label: Alfred Lion, Francis Wolff, Rudy van Gelder and Reid Miles. The focus is also on prominent jazz musicians who have contributed to the typical Blue Note sound, such as Thelonious Monk, Bud Powell, Horace Silver, Art Blakey, Sonny Rollins, Hank Mobley and Dexter Gordon.
