Folk music from Georgia

Georgië 2.jpeg
Folk music from the 15 different regions of Georgia is, bar a few exceptions, always many-voiced. Though instrumental traditions exist in all areas of Georgia, vocal music is the most prominent among the people.
Polyphonie can be found in both female and male singers, though the latter category is considerably larger.
One of the most important aspects of Georgian polyphony is the frequent use of dissonances such as secundas, crotchets, fifths and sevenths in the chords.
The songs will be given a thorough explanation during this programme.

  1. Lazhgvazh (ritual song)
  2. Vitsbil – Matsbil (epic song)
  3. Lemchili (epic song)
  4. Dala Kojas Khelgwazhale (mythological song)
  5. Gaul -Gavkhe (historical song)
