Guest in the Pieternel of the Pieterskerk (St Peter’s church) in Utrecht: The Göksel Yilmaz Ensemble (replay).

For The Göksel Yilmaz Ensemble it has been a busy year on tour, together with International Dance Theatre, with the dance show Silk. After the tour they travelled – with the dance show – to Indonesia for another three performances in Jakarta and Solo.
Göksel 1.jpgGöksel Yilmaz has Arabic roots and was born in the Netherlands. He grew up in southern Turkey. At a very young age he already knew how to play the saz (Turkish stringed instrument) and he specialised in Turkish folk music. During his secondary education, he played in a folklore choir and started his first music band ‘Anadolu Ezgisi’, with which he performed for over 10 years in the Netherlands, Germany and Turkey. In 1997 he started to study classical guitar at the conservatory in Enschede (the Netherlands) under the guidance of concert guitar player, lute player and composer Louis Ignatius Gall.
Since the Göksel Yilmaz Göksel 2.jpgEnsemble was established in 2006, they have done concerts in Belgium, Turkey and the Netherlands. His debut CD Gezgin (‘traveller’)
received many positive reviews: a beautiful, serene CD with Anatolic lyrics, and Turkish and Arabic singing. It also contains a repertoire of Yilmaz’ personal compositions, influenced by traditional music and Western styles like jazz, blues and classical.
They are working hard to publish a new CD, which will be released later this year.
Today in the studio besides Göksel Yilmaz you will als hear Dutch violin player Anne Bakker, double bass player Sándor Kém, percussionist Ulas Aksünger and female singer Funda.
