Ad van Meurs and Ankie Keultjes, live in the studio (rerun).
Ad van Meurs and partner Ankie Keultjes are guests in Acoustic Roots. They need little introduction. For fourty years they bring out Americana, blues and country of high quality. During the broadcast Ad tells about his band The Watchmann, how he really was a singer-songwriter in the 80s already. He played various music styles, including dixieland, new wave, rock, punk, blues and folk but eventually ended up with his current love for country, americana and acoustic songs. Besides, Ad is not a bad (blues) guitarist. Because of his love for Americana he travels to America every year for performances and sometimes to record a CD in all peace.
A visit to his website www.advanmeurs.nl tells us that he plays in five bands, including No Blues, Folk Survival Club and the already mentioned Watchmann. You can also find his full schedule there, so take your chance to see him live.
Ankie Keultjes discovered her voice by coincidence, when she sung lullabies of country singer Hank Williams to her son. Her voice is very suitable for country and folk. She soon got the job to ‘turn the switches’ and because she turned out to be good at it she is now responsible for the right sound. Someone asked her if she wanted to sing along and because she had a nice voice this lead to revealing herself as a singer. She says that she has become a singer by coincidence. A humble remark from someone with such a beautiful voice. At performances she often sings from behind the music table. She also produces various CDs including the latest double CD of No Blues: Kind of No Blues. She says that she is on a lifelong musical search
