The Early World

sat 5 sep 2015 07:00 hrs

World music by Grupo del Sur (the Netherlands & Argentina), Didier Laloy & Kathy Adam (Belgium) and Mames Babegenush (Denmark).

Grupo del Sur consists of four musicians from Brabant and an Argentinian bandoneonist. They carry you on to the world of Astor Piazzolla, a world where melancholy and passion is predominate. Piazzolla was the big innovater from the Argentinian tango: the Tango Nuevo. In the often complex harmonic and rhythmic structures are the influences audible from Bach, Ravel, Stravinsky, and Bartok, but jazz also plays a big part.

Belem.jpgDidier Laloy & Kathy Adam
Didier Laloy (diatonisc accordion) and Kathy Adam (cello) play beautiful harmonies between diatonic accordion and cello, between man and woman. First angular, then elegantly like in the soundtrack of “Amélie Poulain”. First stomping, then soft again. The ensemble and feeling their virtuosity causes an infectious joy that spreads through the room as wildfire. ‘Belem’ is a meeting between two generous artists.

Mames Babegenush.jpgMames Babegenush is deeply rooted in klezmer; the six-member ensemble crosses musical boundaries, it mixes classic Jewish music with styles as diverse as tango, rock, cumbia, electronic and Israeli folk music. Their dynamic klezmer is meant to strengthen one of the world’s most recognizable dance genres.
CD. Mames Babegenush. Label: Math Records (2014), code: math01403.
