North Indian raga music on sitar, for vocals and violin.
Sitar player Anoushka Shankar, born in 1981 and living in Londen, plays the raga Jogeshwari. She is world famous for her innovative world fusion/ cross-over music in combination with Indian sounds. But on her most recent album ‘Home’ (2015), she returns to the essence of her musical roots: the classical North Indian raga. Anoushka Shankar is the daughter of the Indian music legend Ravi Shankar and on her new album she brings a tribute to the musical inheritance of her father. 
The young singer Gauri Pathare fills her raga performances with the styles of Jaipur, Gwalior and Kirana. She performs the composition ‘Kaise Jiya Tarasat’, from the album ‘Bandish’ (2008).
Also a performer of the North Indian raga is the world famous violinist N. Rajam (born 1939). The violin made in her hands a revolutionary development on the area of sound and way of playing, and partly due to this the violin became popular as a solo instrument on the raga stage.
N. Rajams unique singing-like playing style imitates the human voice and because of this she got the nickname ‘singing violin’. With her sweet-voiced, refined sound, N. Rajam plays the raga Patmanjari, a recording from the album ‘Sounds of the Strings’ (1997).
