The Last Century

tue 29 dec 2015 20:00 hrs

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the death of composer Gerard Kockelmans who died at the age forty. He was best known by his choral compositions, with or without orchestra. Many of these works were written under commission. His heart, however, was with what he called his ‘free work’. We will listen to this work tonight.

In addition to historical recordings we hear some piano performances by Arno Dieteren and Robert Weirauch that were recorded specifically for this broadcast. The other performers are Ton Verhiel, Suzanne Welters, Matty Rademakers Eric Voncken, Ingrid Kappelle, Vera Best, Hans Scheijen, Jo Huijts, Alice Hendriks, Ans Humblet, Peter Kokkelmans, Tony Ehlen, the Geleens Mannenkoor Mignon and the DSM-orchestra conducted by Piet Stalmeijer.
