HAWAIIAN MUSIC ‘THE REAL STUFF!!’ Part 17

Today: HUI OHANA Part 1
One of the most important musical families on Hawaii is the KA’APANA family. The most beautiful melodies were passed through from generation to generation. In the 70s, this led to the foundation of the group HUI OHANA, family ties, by twin brothers Ledward and Nedward Ka’apana and their cousin Dennis Pavao, one of the most gifted falsetto singers of his time. The three men, who were still very young, were able to bring new life to the old melodies and stir their audience to tears. We will take a closer look at this family, of which later mother TINA KAAPANA could also be tempted to make some recordings in the record studio and even, a bit later still, the other brothers and sisters of the family as well. Because a new record was released every year, we can play a thing or two in four broadcasts. Our first episode is a repeat of a programme from 7 November 2003. Three more will follow after that. The second part is about Hui Ohana, the third programme is devoted to the ‘mamma’ and biggest source of inspiration to the family: Tina Ka’apana. And in the fourth and final part we will give an overview of the ‘entire family’.
