Singer songwriter Jono McCleery.
Today we broadcast the solo concert of the English singer songwriter Jono McCleery that was recorded on Friday 13 May, in the wharf cellar of the activity centre De Kargadoor, Utrecht.
Jono McCleery is an enigmatic and promising musician from South-East London, who without doubt is one of the fastest growing stars in the singer-songwriter scene in England. He already toured with Gil Scott Heron, Bonobo, Fink, Jose Gonzales, Little Dragon, Jamie Woon and the Portico Quartet. Jono started playing the guitar when he was 18 years old, he learned it in the London live music scene. In 2008 his debut album Darkest Light was launched, which was financed by donations from his fans. It is a beautiful album with influences from celebrities like Nick Drake, Bill Withers and Jeff Buckley.
In 2011 the album ‘There is’ was released, with among others the beautiful song Fears, in which his work on the electric guitar but especially his voice is a reminder of John Martyns iconic album Solid Air. He is also compared with Miles Davis and Massive Attack.
In 2015 his album Pagodes was launched, an intimate, personal and strong poetic album, followed by Pagodes Live in 2016.
