This hour is dedicated entirely to Latvian folk music, varying from traditional Latvian music to pop. You’ll hear the start of song sung by Vaira Vîķe-Freiberga and freinds. Freiberga is mainly know as the first female prime minister of Latvia. She has, however, also written scientific articles about Latvian folk songs. Also featured is the bagpipe- and percussion group Auli, and many songs in which the kolke (a traditional string instrument) can be heard. All recordings come from the Latvian ‘Lauska’ label, that specializes in Latvian folk music.
