A musical serial. Episode 13: He loved him madly.

When Duke Ellington died in 1974, Miles Davis recorded a long, atmospheric piece in remembrance of him. It was called He Loved Him Madly, after Ellington’s habit of telling audiences ‘we love you madly’ at the end of each performance. The landscape quality and form of this piece was a source of inspiration for Brian Eno, who would ‘return to it often’.

In this episode, we mix He Loved Him Madly with work by Nils Petter Movaer, who was likely inspired by this episode in Miles Davis’ work. His piece Exit is the opening and closing statement of this Episode, while Phum is the opening and closing for Miles Davis’ atmospheric piece.
