Interview with Izaline Callister who will pick her own choice in music.
Izaline Callister (Curaçao, 1969), winner of the Edison 2009, has made an impressive career as singer-songwriter over the last 12 years. She distinguishes herself by performing barefooted. She studied at the Prins Claus Conservatory in Groningen and recently released her 8th studio album ‘Rayo di Lus’ (Rays of light).
Her music is a mix of the traditional music from her island of birth Curaçao and Afro Caribbean jazz. She was crowned Tumba Queen in Curaçao in 2000 and was awarded an Edison in the world music category in 2009.
The Antillean singer generated no 1 hits in the Caribbean with the songs Wow’i Kariño, Kanta Hélele, Sa Sa Na Awasa, Bendisiona and more recently Reina di Pordon. Momentarily, she tours theatres with her new programme ‘Latin Diva’ which also has songs from her latest CD.
