Jazz, blues and nostalgia, by Sjaak Roodenburg.
Who remembers Vaughn de Leath aka ‘Ukulele Lady’ and ‘Original Radio Girl’ who was world famous in the 20s and the first woman to sing ‘live’ on radio. She then was active in experiments with television, managed radio stations, but disappeared as quickly as she came. Or singer Bruce Low, born in Paramaribo, Suriname, who became famous in Germany and can be heard in the beautiful country song ‘Beter dan ik.’ Almost forgotten Lia Dorana sings a dreamy song about the bounds fading in the 50s (‘De wereld is een klein provinciestadje’).
Furthermore, in this Palace: Edith Piaf, cool jazz by Lennie Niehaus, Billie Holliday, cornetist Ruby Braff in the universe of Sinatra, light music of Leroy Anderson, Ella Fitzgerald. And of course, some time on the recent death of Adèle Bloemendaal.
