Interview with a Dutch jazz musician
Efraïm Trujillo, born in 1969 in Lynwood California, picked up the clarinet at the age of six and later the saxophone. He has been living in Amsterdam since 1980, where he studied at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam under, among others, Tim Armacost (saxophone) and Micha Mengelberg (orchestrating). He played all chief jazz stages, both in the Netherlands and abroad, with The Ploctones, Fra Fra Sound, The Preacher Men, and big band the New Cool Collective. For the last few years he played at the Dutch North Sea Jazzfestival, the Standard Bank Jazz Festival in South Africa and the Tokyo Jazz Festival in Japan. Since 2014 he has been the artistic leader of the Amsterdam Funk Orchestra. He was nominated for an Edison Award in 2010, 2011 as well in 2013 alongside the Ploctones and the Obs6sions.
