A whole night of world music, with music from South Africa, Armenia, France, Morocco/the Netherlands, Spain, Brasil, Chile, Belgium and North Africa.

1- Freshlyground.

The band was founded in Cape Town. in 2002. The band members are from South Africa, Mozambique and Zimbabwe. The music of Freshlyground is a mix of South African music, blues, jazz, rock, jive and Indie, In 2007 Freshlyground released the album Ma ‘Cheri, which reached a status of five time platinum. Together with singer Shakira they represented South Africa musically with the song Waka waka (This time for Africa).   CD:Freshlyground – Ma’Cheri. Label: Wrasse Records (2008), code: 222. Video

2- Kef Time.
Bandleader Richard Hagopian sings his heart out in both Armenian and Turkish, and accompanies himself on the lute. The play of percussionist and co-leader Buddy Sarkissian hits all the right notes, but clarinet player Hachig Kazaria and kanun player Jack Chalikian also perform admirably. The ‘Middle Eastern character’ has quite a dose of American movability, especially in bass guitarist Manny Petro. The recordings are from 1968 and were partially released earlier on ‘Saha Records’. Cd. Kef Time – Exciting Sounds of the Middel East. Label: Traditional Crossroads (1994), code: 4269. Video

3– Mellino.
Most members of Mellino started their career on the iconic band ‘Les Négresses Vertes’. This third album by Mellino takes us on an ecclectic musical journey through a demonic Mediterranean mix of rock and blues. They are more comfortable on stage than ever. Mellino’s singer and percussionist Iza and guitarist Stefane are accompanied on tour by drummer Adilson Monteiro en guitarist Alain Bastard

CD. Mellino LIVE. Label: A.I.M. (2014), Xango Music. Video

4- Ijdi
A multicultural company around Morrocan singer Rachid El Morabet. The music of this band from the Dutch province of Limburg, unites African sounds, western pop, funk soul and jazz. The group’s strong points are a near Chicago-tight wind section, and the somewhat hoarse but impassioned vocals by singer Rachid El Morabet, who sings in Berber. He writes the lyrics, in which he sings the fate of the Berber population.               CD. Ijdi – Songs. Label: Modern Sound Design Productions (2005), code: MSD001. Video

5- Muchachito.
In 2007 singer and guitarist Muchachito started his own record label ‘El Orfanato Eléctrico’  and released Visto Lo Visto. We hear the agile band of nine starting on a fiery journey, mixing a fast cocktail of Catalan rumba, ska, reggae, soul, mambo or spaghetti western music, always supported by a funky wind section. The lyrics usually tell the story of night life and its bohemian inhabitant, often sounding exuberant and naughty.                     CD. Muchachito Bombo Inferno – Visto Lo Visto. Label: El Orfanato Eléctrico (2007), code: OE01CD. Video

6- China.
Flávio Augusto Câmara, known in the music industry as China, embarked on his musical career – in 1996 Recife, Brasil – at the high of ‘Manguebeat’ (a mix of Brazilian and western music). After the group split up early 2000’s, he went solo. He’s a singer, composer, VJ, tv presenter and member of the band Del Ray. With over 15 years of music experience, three albums well-received by the public and critics alike, and having played several important festivals from the alternative scene, China has become an oracle of muxic from ‘Pernambuco’ (the province of which Recife is the capital).  CD. China – Simulacro. Label: Candeeiro (2007), code: CAN009. Video

7- Los Tres.
A recognized Chilean band, formed in 1987 in the city of Concepcion. It is one of the most influential Latin American bands from the 1990’s and onward. With over a dozen official albums and several contributions to collective and compilation albums, the band truly represents its Chilean roots, that marries rockability, jazz and folk music of its country.                                 CD. Los Tres – Hagalo Usted Mismo. Label: Nacional Records (2006), code: NCL68479. Video

8- Les Boukakes.
The album Marra was recorded in 2007 featuring singer B. Mokhtar. Since they started 1988, the band Les Boukakes has shared their adventures with about 20 musicians and singers from all part of the Mediterranean Sea. This blend appears to be perfect, with its combination of eastern and western influences: raï, rock, funk and pop. The band’s name is a response to unkind remarks they received while playing the streets. ‘Boukake’ is a phonetic mix of two racial slurs. After some years on the street they worked their way up from bars, to small concerts, to festivals, to large audiences. Les Boukakes have shared the stage with well-known bands, such as Femi Kuti,  Manu Dibango,  Khaled,  Tinariwen and many others CD. Les Boukakes – Marra. Label: Atlas Music (2008), code: AMP08-1. Video

9- Wild Boar & Bull Brasse Band.
This is the result of when a trombone player and a rapper meet: a subtle blend of 90’s hiphop, jazz and funk. It opens our ears and makes us dream of sandy beaches. Saxophone, trombone, percussion and bass create the magical recipe of this Belgium group. CD. Wld Boar & Bull Brasse Band – Consume This! Lable: Naff Records (2013), distributie Xango Music.
