The Big Sound

sat 4 mar 2017 10:00 hrs
Composer: Dizzy Gillespie

Big bands and large jazz ensembles. Saxophone player Boyd Raeburn (1913-1966) was in the 40’s the leader of the most progressive jazz orchestra in a big-band music scene that was already well represented by names as Woody Herman, Dizzy Gillespie and Stan Kenton. Thanks to arrangers, such as Eddie Finckel, Johnny Richards and mainly George Handy, and some top-notch soloists, Raeburn was able to keep an avant garde company going, unlike any other.
