Series about and with Catalan gambist and conductor Jordi Savall.
Heinrich Biber’s Missa Salisburgensis by Savall.
Heinrich Biber’s Missa Salisburgensis is one of the most extensive religious musical compositions of the Baroque period. It was composed for a great event then: the 1100th anniversary of the Salzburg archbishopric in 1682. 53 singers and instrumentalists were divided into 7 groups across Salzburg’s cathedral, which must have had an impressive effect.
The composition has rarely been performed or recorded since then because of this set-up and the efforts required. Jordi Savall recorded it for the first time in 17 years.
