Jazz, blues and nostalgia, this time without plugs.
Today we talk about Herman Openneer (1935-2017), walking encyclopedia of the Dutch Jazz Archives and cornerstone of the Animal Crackers (‘the band without plugs’), and about the passing of Jan Stulen and Glen Campell. We have a blend of styles and movements from the past with Blossom Dearie, Flemish bard (and achitect!) Zjef Vanuytsel (from the great album ‘De Zotte Morgen’), Billie Holiday with vocal group The Stardusters, splendid and prewar Bin Uehara from Japan, clownish clarinet player Boyd Senter (nicknamed ‘The Jazzologist Supreme’), French charm singer AndrĂ© Claveau, a sensual Julie London, a witty lesson in life by Wim Sonneveld with Conny Stuart and Joop Doderer, and if we have time the colossal voice of Joseph Schmidt too. To put it briefly, sounds from times when music was pure, and plugs were superfluous.
