Carnavales, charangas or Parrandas are large public celebrations that are customary in Cuba. In Santiago de Cuba they go all the way back to the 17th century. Santiago’s Carnaval however, has a special status among Cubans.
In this broadcast we will play street recordings that were made during the Santiago de Cuba Carnaval in 1961, released with the French Le Chant Du Monde label.
