Nuove Musiche

wed 4 oct 2017 10:00 hrs

This hour features a new, special CD with early music.

‘Stravaganza d’Amore’, part 2. The CD book ‘The Birth of Opera at the Medici Court’ by Ensemble Pygmalion conducted by Raphaël Pichon.

In late 16th century Florence the ‘intermedio’ was in fashion, which was an attempt to achieve a perfect mix of music and poetry. These interludes were presented as musical intermezzos between the various scenes, whether or not with ballet and scenic tableaus.

Composers such as Peri, Caccini (Euridice, 1600), Monteverdi (L’Orfeo) and Gagliano (Dafne) composed an extended kind of intermedio: a new opera genre.

Raphaël Pichon selected the most beautiful intermedios characterized by Apollo, Orpheus and Euridice and of course Cupid.
