The Palace of Nostalgia

sat 14 oct 2017 13:00 hrs

Jazz, blues and nostalgia, by Sjaak Roodenburg.

Timeless music from the past. Ella Fitzgerald sings ‘People will say we’re in love’ from ‘Oklahoma’, as do Alfred Drake and Joan Roberts, who were the original performers of this song. Furthermore Peggy Lee, the ancient Altlantic Dance Orchestra with an ode to ‘cat burglars’, and silent movie comedian Harold Lloyd. Also, Art Pepper, Chet Baker, Herman van Veen singing about a small girl riding a wobbly bicycle, and Gerard Cox singing about jogging with the deceased of his life. Some in memoriams too: band leader Les Elgart (famous for the Bandstand Boogie), comedian Shelly Berman (precursor of the current stand-up comedians), conductor Jan Stulen (from the Metropole Orchestra, among other things), and Blue Diamond Riem de Wolff (in a rock-like act with his brother).
