The Early World

sat 9 dec 2017 07:00 hrs

With music from Mali, Scandinavia and the Unites Kingdom, with the Trio Da Kali & Kronos Quartet, Monoswezi, Roman Goose.

1- Ladinikan – Trio Da Kali & Kronos Quartet.

The music of the Trio Da Kali is strongly based on the Malinese griot tradition. Together with the American Kronos Quartet they made the CD Ladilikan. The album contains piece by piece songs that deliver your goose bumps. A beautiful, equal mix of African traditional music and Western influences. Da Kali literally means “taking an oath” and this trio has sworn to never deviate from their Malian roots. That does not mean, however, that they can not renew their music, and that is why they joined hands with the renowned Kronos Quartet. The Trio Da Kali consists of Lassana Diabaté, who plays the balafon, Mamadou Kouyaté on bass ngoni and vocalist Hawa Kasse Mady Diabaté. Her voice resembles that of a gospa divide: warm and powerful.

2- A Je – Monoswezi.

African-Scandinavian jazz alchemists Monoswezi explore new sonic worlds on their third album A Je. African music remains central to inspiration and their compositional approach is based on Hope Masike’s Zimbabwean and Calu Tsemane’s Mozambican musical heritage alongside that of Scandinavian jazz. The music of Monoswezi is refined and thoughtful, with great attention to detail and with beautiful polyphonic singing.

3- Long Road to Tiznit – Ramon Goose.

The long and winding road from Marrakesh to Tiznit had a profound influence on the ‘Desert blues’ of guitarist Ramon Goose, who forges an infectious mix of ‘old-school blues’ and hypnotic ‘Sahara grooves’ with songs of refugees, smugglers, and danger. and freedom. Ramon Goose wrote the album during his travels in Morocco and the Sahara desert with guest performances by guitarist Justin Adams. Recorded in London with his own band and in Marrakech with local Berber musicians. CD. Long Road to Tiznit – Ramon Goose. Label: Riverboat Records (2017), code: TUGCD1104.
