The Lasses are our guest in Acoustic Roots
Sophie Janna and Margot Merah got to know each other during the music sessions in the Amsterdam Irish pub Mulligans. Someone suggested them to sing together in a jam. Their voices appeared to match very well and from that moment on they form the duo The Lasses. They accompany themselves on the guitar, the bodhran (Irish hand drum) and occasionally on the harmonica. They also have a great repertoire of songs. Stories about love, death and other matters of life are presented without pretention, full of humour and musicality. The Irish and American folk traditions have clearly left their marks on the choice of song and on The Lasses’ own work.
The Lasses build on Celtic-British and American repertoire, but bring also songs of their own. On the first two CDs – the debut without title and successor Daughters – are no songs of their own. On the third CD are live recordings, made in de Parel van Zuilen in Utrecht.
In 2018, there will be many performances of The Lasses in Utrecht, Giethoorn, Burgerbrug, and thereafter Japan a.o. In April they will be in America for shows in Washington, Oregon and California.
