The Source of Sound involves the material, the movement and the vibration of which music arises.
Episode 31 Vodoo, trance and obsession
Also this month in the Source of Sound it’s about the recordings that Gilbert Rouget (he passed away last year) made in Africa. But now, it’s about voodoo, music, dance, trance and possession of which Gilbert Rouget wrote a very interesting book about: Music and Trance. A theory of the relations between Music and Possession. A book which is crucially based on his experiences in West Africa in the beginning of the 50’s, when he criss-cross travelled through the region and by order of the Paris Museum of Mankind made recordings of music. Much of it was released on vinyl and for the first time a curious audience was able to listen what happened during voodoo rituals in tempels and at gatherings of secret societies. In the Source of Sound of this month you will hear a selection of released and never published archive recordings which Gilbert Rouget then made, purposed for Ogun, Orisha, the ever returning ancestors and all who belong in the pantheon of the voodoo.
