Govert Jan Bach’s weekday programme about the oeuvre of Johann Sebastian Bach. Episode 651. This week is Sigiswald Kuijken week! On 16 February 2019 the Belgian violinist and conductor Sigiswald Kuijken turns 75 and in celebration, this Bach Ad Infinitum week is Sigiswald Kuijken week.
Sigiswald Kuijken, along with his brothers Wieland en Barthold, was one of the pioneers of the Early Music Movement. From 1969 he introduced the authentic playing method for the baroque violin and (re)discovered the viola da spalla (pictured). Sigiswald Kuijken
also introduced important innovations in the performance of the (religious) music by Bach. He limits the size of the vocals to a soloist vocal quartet instead of a choir.
