Genius Music Friends

thu 11 apr 2019 11:00 hrs

In part XII of the ‘Genius Music Friends’ series, about the common ground between Haydn and Mozart, we listen to the works that Mozart created which were commissioned by the Prussian king, after undertaking a long and expensive journey to Berlin. The king ordered six string quartets with a principal part for the cello, and six easy piano sonatas for his daughter. We will play excerpts from two of these quartets for you. The finale of the last quartet is based on a theme that Haydn used in a piano trio five years later. Compelling gypsy music that went down extremely well during Haydn’s triumphant tour in England. After that we will play Mozart’s Piano sonata KV 576 for you. Which was supposed to be easy, for a Prussian princess, but in practice is extremely difficult, partly due to the fresh influences from Bach’s music picked up in Leipzig.
