Trumpet player Muggsy Spanier (1901-1967) was one of the first white jazz musicians in Chicago. He based his style on that of King Oliver and he made his recording debut in 1924. His breakthrough came in 1928, when he was signed by Ray Miller. With that band he, among other things, made recordings for radio broadcasts. The year after that, he started working with entertainer Ted Lewis. We will play recordings for you from both bands.
