The Big Sound

sun 28 jul 2019 00:00 hrs

Alvino Rey (1908-2004) pioneered the electric guitar: his pickup element was used in the famous Gibson ES-150, one of the first electric guitars for large-scale production. He continued his experiments, among others his early version of the vocoder in pianist Horace Heidt’s dance orchestra, in his own big band, which he led from the late 1930s to the 1950s.
