This episode features two totally different female singers.
Jazz vocalist Cassandra Wilson (1955) taught herself to play the guitar and wrote her own songs. She was one of the founders of the M-Base collective and, later, started her career as a soloist. IN 1993, she was contracted by Blue Note and various albums were released. Today, we will hear her sing, only accompanied by pianist Jackie Terrasson.
At an early age, Nora Jones (1979) started to sing in church choirs and studied jazz piano. She mainly played music she had written herself. She started a solo career and signed a contract with Blue Note. Her first album “Come Along With Me” – of which we will play several songs – became a big commercial success.
