Finnish composers.
Today in ‘Contemporary Music’, we focus on three Finnish composers: Einojuhani Rautavaara, Kaija Saariaho and Lotta Wennäkoski. Although they all have their own styles and sounds, there are also similarities in lyrical character and sound. The three works we present elaborate on the tradition of the compositions with which another great Finn, Jean Sibelius, caused a furore in the beginning of the 20th century. Maybe this is no wonder, since all three composers studied at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki .
