One hour of pure Americana: we present recently released albums of two of North America’s best female singer/songwriters: Lori McKenna and Sarah Jarosz.
Country and folk singer Lori McKenna (1968) has lived her whole live in Staunton, Massachusetts She has been married for more than thirty years and is a mother of five children. In her songs, she reflects on daily life with a calm, honest eye. She often sings about family life and relatives, and about love’s ups and downs.
Lori McKenna can be counted as one of the very best American songwriters. For decades, she tosses off songs, and has won several important music prizes for her work, among which a few Grammies and a number of Country Music Association Awards. In this broadcast we hear songs of her album, The Balladeer, which was released in July 2020, and on which Lori McKenna looks back on her life as a musician and a mother.
In this episode, we hear new work of the American singer/songwriter Sarah Jarosz, who was born in Texas (1991), and who has been living in the City of New York for many years now. Her many-sided music is usually grouped under American roots music, and is a mix of country, bluegrass, folk and jazzy pop. Sarah Jarosz is seen as one of the best songwriters of her generation. In June 2020, her fifth solo album, named World on the Ground, was released. On this, she tells personal stories in beautiful, quiet songs, that take us back to the place where she grew up: Wimberley, a village near Austin in Texas. Sarah Jarosz has already won a few Grammies for her music, which, by now, is known throughout the world.
