Clark Terry The Happiest Sound In Jazz.

December 14 marked the hundredth anniversary of the birth of trumpet player Clark Terry. His career spanned more than 60 years; he played in the Swing Era and in the Bop Era (and he was a master in both eras), he worked with many jazz musicians, instrumentalists and vocalists alike.
We’ll listen to him in his Charlie Barnet and Quincy Jones orchestra days, and we’ll listen to him with his colleagues in his Ellington Era.
We’ll also hear him sing in his bands! Featuring Ella Fitzgerald and Abbey Lincoln, and valve trombone player Bob Brookmeyer and tenor saxophone player Jimmy Heath. Finally, we’ll hear him as an 87-year-old in 83-year-old Louie Bellson’s Big Band.
