Traditional Classical music from Armenia, with duduk-masters Arsen Petrosyan & Vardan Grigoryan.
1- Arsen Petrosyan.
His album Hokin Janapar, meaning ‘my soul’ is a nostalgic exploration of music that touches his soul, as well as reflecting the ongoing odyssey of the Armenian nation. It is a collection of eleven pieces from different eras. Arsen Petrosyan’s diverse program provides a glimpse into the Armenian duduk, often considered one of the more emotional instruments in the global woodwind family. CD. 2- Grigoryan Vardan.
The Armenian musician Grigoryan Vardan is one of the country’s foremost artists on the duduk and on this album Hokin Janapar he plays traditional Armenian songs as well as his own compositions. Grigoryan comes from a family of musicians and his unique talent for performing traditional Armenian folk music and as a composer has led to collaborations with several well-known musicians including Chick Corea. On the album, Grigoryan’s own compositions are clearly based on the traditional legacy of his instrument. He is able to let the emotional sounds of the duduk coexist with the more modern phrasing of other musical languages. CD. In the shadow of the song – Grigoryan Vardan.
