Music from the 17th and 18th century. This episode is dedicated to Johann Heinrich Schmelzer (approx. 1620-1680)
From 1649 until his death, Schmelzer was a violinist at the imperial court in Vienna. In 1665, he was entrusted to compose ballet music for the Carnaval, for example. In this hour, we’ll listen to chamber music, ballet music, and pieces for special occasions.
