Radio Romantica

mon 31 may 2021 12:00 hrs
Composer: Johannes Brahms

Musical Romanticism, explored by Pieter de Oude.

Johannes Brahms: Concerto for violin, violoncello, and orchestra, op. 102 and Variations on a theme of Haydn.

Brahms, Brahms, and more Brahms. As far as you are concerned, Radio Romantica should be filled every week with music from this great artist. His double concerto for violin and cello is unique; two soloists who technically compete on the highest level, but later on come together and fuse. Sometimes it seems like a full string quartet is playing a solo, with all those fantastic chords that are possible on both instruments. Julia Fischer and Daniel Müller-Schott, the soloists of tonight, are among the world’s best and they are accompanied by Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by its then principal conductor Yakov Kreizberg, we write 2007. The recording of Brahm’s Haydn Variations is from 1992. You will listen to Boston’s symphony orchestra who has recorded a Brahms cycle in those years, conducted by our Bernard Haitink.
