Alphons Diepenbrock (1862 – 1921)
Part 1
Alphons Diepenbrock (2 September 1862 – 5 April 1921) was one of the greatest Dutch composers of the fin-de-siècle. He was influenced by the diverse styles of Palestrina, Wagner, Debussy and various poets. On 5 April this year, we commemorated his 100th death anniversary. Diepenbrock mainly wrote vocal music. Of the almost 150 independent compositions, there are barely any without voice or text. The next three episodes of “Thou Singest Ye Carol” feature a selection of his songs. Songs with piano or orchestral accompaniment.
