Dutch Jazz on CD, compiled by Jan Verwey.
Theme: new productions
We will be starting off with a duo:
Oene van Geel, viola. Tom van Dyck, saxes.
They play improvised short pieces in which the special interplay of violin and baritone saxophone is particularly striking, especially in terms of sound.
The 2nd CD is by the Hanna Marieke trio. She plays the piano and sings with a clear voice. Her entire album is filled with her own compositions.
The last CD is by three very well-known “Jazz-Dutchmen”: John Engels, Benjamin Herman and Joris Teepe. You could call it a chordless trio, with no pianist or guitarist to provide the harmonies. So alto sax, double bass and drums. But it all sounds great. It was recorded at the Bimhuis on the 85th birthday of master drummer John Engels, so it turned out to be a nice birthday present!
